Strengths and Opportunities in the Sector

  • Livestock is one of the few indigenous economic opportunities which have a real potential to improve in relatively short time the social and economic conditions of the area.

  • Improvement of fodder and feed situation would also pave the way for commercialization of the sector and strengthening of the livestock products based industries.

  • There is a high level of awareness and interest about improvement of the sector in all tribes.

  • There is a good potential for substantial improvement of fodder and feed.

  • Livestock along with agriculture forms a major component of the subsistence economy of FATA.

  • Rights and benefits of local tribes and clans over livestock and grazing grounds can be considered as a good basis of resource sustainability.

  • Veterinary institutions spanning over a wide area can be of real value with appropriate inputs.

  • High demand for livestock and poultry sector development exists as an incentive for conversion from subsistence towards sustainable commercial livestock and poultry production for better economic returns.
